The goal of Klondike Solitaire is to build up four foundation piles by suit, from Ace to King. Sounds easy, right? Well, it's not all smooth sailing, as you'll need a mix of strategy, patience, and a little bit of luck to emerge victorious.
Klondike Solitaire is played with a standard 52-card deck, arranged into seven tableau columns and a stockpile. Drawing cards from the stockpile and choosing the right moves are key to winning the game.
Valid Moves:
In Klondike Solitaire, the card piles in the tableau can be built down by descending card rank with alternating colors. For example, if you have a red 6, you can place a black 5 on top of it. When you uncover an Ace, move it to the foundation pile to start building that suit. Cards can be transferred from the tableau to the foundation piles when they are in ascending order and of the same suit. Additionally, when a tableau column is empty, you can place a King in the open spot to start a new pile. Drawing cards from the stockpile and making strategic moves will help you progress through the game.
Winning, Scoring, and Losing:
To win Klondike Solitaire, you'll need to move all the cards from the tableau and stockpile to the foundation piles, sorted by suit from Ace to King. If you manage to do this, congratulations—you've won the game!
Points are earned through various actions:
- +15 points for any card you drop on the foundation for the first time
- +5 points for any card you snap on the board for the first time
But beware: time is your enemy! You lose -8 points every 30 seconds, so play strategically to maximize your score.
Losing can happen when you've exhausted all possible moves and can no longer make progress. It's a harsh reality, but even the most seasoned Klondike adventurers face defeat from time to time.
